Magic Show or Strolling Magic?
I have performed at all types of parties: birthdays, engagements, graduations, corporate events, weddings, bachelor, bachelorette and retirement parties. The number one question that the event planners ask is - Should I have a magic show and/or strolling magic? I rarely recommend that you have both in one event but there are exceptions.
There are several factors that determine whether you should have a show and/or strolling magic. First you should know the difference between a show and strolling magic. A show is more formal at a specific time and location. It is meant to interrupt the party and gather everyone in one place to sit for a show that lasts a specific period of time.
Strolling magic is less formal and is not designed to interrupt the party for a specific period time. I will stroll from group to group and do short presentations. If the crowd is large enough I stay in one place behind a table and guests come to me. Strolling magic is perfect during a cocktail hour, or between dinner courses at a formal event. Strolling magic is done close-up, leaving your guests confused and amused and talking about your event for years to come!
There are two critical decisions that must be answered in deciding whether to have a show and/or strolling magic. First, do you have the appropriate space for a show? Ideally everyone can be seated in such a way that they can see and hear the show. Unlike music that can be appreciated from a distance, magic must be seen and heard. The second factor relates to what your entertainment goals are. Maybe your goal is to get people who don’t know each other to mingle. Maybe there are several different types of entertainment that include magic. Maybe it is to buy time while something else is going one, such as providing entertainment during the cocktail hour at a wedding to provide guests with some amusement while the wedding party is taking photographs. You wouldn’t want a show in this scenario because people are coming and going, etc.
So give some thought to what you are trying to achieve and then give me a call. If you can spare ten minutes to discuss your event I can assure you it will assist me in making it more magical.
In addition, Crazy Christine Balloons can create custom balloons to fit your party theme. Children of all ages will be delighted with custom balloons they can take home with them as a party souvenir!
